HIGHLIGHTS:

Even though Guatemala, the largest Cardamom producing country gives a tight competition to India, during the past three years the Cardamom production and exports in the country has increased. During 2013-14, India produced about 20000 tons of Cardamom and exported about 4700 tons. During 2015-16, the production and exports in the country has increased to 27300 tons and 6000 tons respectively. In the three years, the Cardamom production has increased by 33.5 percent and the exports were increased by 30 percent. Even though, the major portion of the Country's produce is consumed domestically, India managed to do well in the exports. The government is implementing various measures to meet the increasing demand in the country. The main reason for increased production and exports ahead of Guatemala is the superior quality Cardamom produced in India. The trend is expected to continue in the future.
