The area under Cotton cultivation in Telangana is likely to increase by at least 20% to 1.75 million hectares during the current kharif season, compared to the fiber grown on 1.41 million hectares last year. As a result higher area, Cotton production in the state is expected to increase to around 1.915 million bales, the government said in a statement. In view of the expected increase in the extent of Cotton cultivation, the State Government has requested the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to open 150 purchase (procurement) centres when the fibre crop production starts arriving into the market later this year.
